The Inca citadel of Choquequirao was a beautiful and very important place in that civilization, very little known by tourists, being the link between the Amazon jungle Cusco City. This trek to Choquequirao is ideal for many tourists who want to explore the Andes and are really interested in learning about the ancient Inca civilization. This route combines beautiful mountain landscapes and incredible panoramic views, lush forests, a subtropical jungle with splendid natural environment, then the incredible Inca site of Choquequirao, a little-known archaeological spot, which displays the magnificent work of Inca masons such as exceptional stone pavement on the road, beautiful Inca villages, sumptuous temples, warehouses, agricultural terraces, canals, water sources and much more. Currently you can tour all this in 4 days/3 nights. We can say that Choquequirao is equal to Machu Picchu.

DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO CITY – CACHORA- CAPULICHAYOC – CHIQUISCA.
Pick up from your hotel at 5:00 am in our transportation and then drive to CACHORA (2,909 m.a.s.l./9543 ft.), a village where we will have breakfast and prepare our bags, before starting the 3-hour hike. We start our journey around 9:00am. From there, the first 2-hour walk goes on a beautiful, descending path, there are spectacular views of the valley and the river. The path is surrounded by charming plants and flowers such as begonias, orchids, cacti and you can see some local birds. We will reach a nice viewpoint called CAPULIYOC (2,915 m.a.s.l./9,561 ft), to have the privilege of spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora (mountains over 5,400 m.a.s.l./17,700 ft). At this point we will have time to enjoy our appetizers and take some pictures of the stunning views of the river and canyon, that extends across the valley. From there we descend on a unique zigzag path for 2 more hours, to reach our lunch spot. Finally around 1:00 p.m. we eat. You will have time to relax, rest and have a refreshing tea; then the hike resumes for two more hours downwards, until our campsite located in CHIQUISCA (1,836 m.a.s.l./6,023 feet) at approximately 17:00, where we will spend the night.

DAY 2: CHIQUISCA – MARAMPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO RUINS
After our breakfast, we leave early, throughout the day we will see a great variety of bromeliads, orchids and bamboo, we also hope to see feathereds such as: watchbird, toucans and a great variety of hummingbirds. From our campsite we hike for about 1 hour to descend to the bottom of the canyon, called PLAYA ROSALINAS and find the magnificent APURIMAC river (1,550 m.a.s.l./5,084 ft). From there, probably the most difficult section of the path will begin due to the ascent; 2 hours uphill to SANTA ROSA (2,095 m.a.s.l./6,873 feet) where there will be time for a refreshing break. From SANTA ROSA we will continue ascending for another 2 hours towards MARAMPATA (2,913 m.a.s.l. /9,557 ft), a flat terrain where we can rest and enjoy the views of the Apurímac canyon and the famous Choquequirao Inca site. There we will have lunch and use the facilities (bathrooms and laundry room). After lunch we continue hiking for an hour to reach our campsite, located on the outskirts of the great Inca site CHOQUEQUIRAO (3,110 m.a.s.l./10,120 ft.) and spend the afternoon at the ruins, until seeing a beautiful sunset over the mountains, and if we are lucky, there will be condors in the valley below. Camping at the CHOQUEQUIRAO campsite (bathrooms and cold showers are available).

DAY 03: MARAMPATA – CHIQUISCA – ROSALINAS BEACH.
After our breakfast we will visit the mysterious Inca site of CHOQUEQUIRAO, where the professional guide will explain everything about the history of this magnificent Inca citadel. Originally discovered in the 17th century a.C. by the Spanish, it was abandoned and forgotten until recent years, when tourism raised the city’s profile and exploration began. Even with this growing interest, only 50% of the citadel has been studied and many of its secrets are still waiting to be discovered. Currently we can visit the most important areas such as the main square, the Inca emperor houses, granaries, the ceremonial sector and its altars, famous terraces and the large Llama sector, where the Incas represented this sacred animal in their buildings. After our visit to that sector, we have extra time to explore and enjoy the place for ourselves, and after your visit, the trekking to CACHORA will begin, on the route we have come from. We begin the hike, walk one hour to MARAMPATA then lunch and have a good rest. After lunch we will march 4 hours downhill and arrive at our campsite at the base of the valley, called LA PLAYA (1,550 m.a.s.l./5,084 feet) to spend the night next to the famous Apurimac (“God speaks”) river.

DAY 04: LA PLAYA – CACHORA – CUSCO CITY.
After breakfast we leave the campsite very early, for we need to be back in Cusco City in the afternoon. From this point we will ascend to CAPULIYOC, for approximately 4 hours, strolling through the beautiful and pleasant panoramic view; this will be our last stop, where we will have lunch outdoors. After, we will finally hike the last 2 hours to reach the village called CACHORA (2,909 m.a.s.l./9,543 feet). There we are going to say GOODBYE to our muleteers who carried all our belongings on the route. There our private car will be waiting to take us back to Cusco City (3:30 hours ride). We will arrive in CUSCO CITY between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
