Then, you’ll transfer to a bus for a brief journey to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, where you will enjoy a beautiful day and you will be amazed for this magical place. After the tour you will have free time to explore the complex at your own pace or you can walk to the Sun Gate for great views of the area below or take a short path to Inca Bridge. DETAILED ITINERARY
EXCURSION BY TRAIN TO MACHU PICCHU – 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT
- DAY 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes Town.
- DAY 2: Aguas Calientes town – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytamabo – Cusco.
*If you wish to walk to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, please ask for available spaces when you book your tour because is subject to availability, just 400 spaces a day.
DAY 1: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES TOWN.
We will pick you up from your Cusco hotel at 10:00 am. and you will be transported by car for 1 hour and 30 minutes until the Train Station located in the town of Ollantaytambo (2800 masl.), here you will catch the train to take you to Aguas Calientes Town. In order to meet various customer needs, you can choose from three different types of trains:Train Expetion, Train Vistadome and Train Executive Class – choose the one that best suits your needs.
The trip by train is a very pleasant experience through beautiful landscapes with amazing views of the magnificent peruvian mountains, for about 1 hour and 40 minutes in a nice and scenic train to Aguas Calientes Village (2000 masl).
When you get Aguas Calientes Village, in the Train Station will be waiting for you one of our representatives, who will lead the chosen hotel. Here you will have all the afternoon to know the town of “Aguas Calientes” exploring by yourself, and if you want you have the choice to enjoy the thermo-medicinal baths of the Town.
In the evening, at your hotel our tour guide will provide you very important information about your next day, so you’re fully prepared for your visit to Machu Picchu on the last day. After, it is advisable to go to sleep at a reasonable time in our comfortable hotel in order to wake up in the early hours of the morning to get Machu Picchu.
DAY 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU INCA SITE – CUSCO
Very early in the morning, after breakfast we leave from the Machu Picchu Hotel and we will walk 5 minutes to Bus station, from here you’ll ascend in tourist bus for 30 minutes by a zig zag road through High jungle until Machu Picchu Sanctuary (2400 meters).
On arrival by bus to Machu Picchu our professional tour guide will be waiting for you, with who you will begin the guided tour, the tour will last approximately 2 hours, where our tour guide will explain about the History of this Magnificent Inca City visiting magical and Interesting sites such as the main plaza, the famous terraces, the inca houses, the granaries, the water fountains, the ceremonial sector and its altars that have made of Machu Picchu one of the New Wonders of the World. This is a once in a lifetime experience.
After the guided tour you will have enough free time to take nice pictures exploring the place by yourself, or to take an optional short walk to Sun gate (2 hours walk round trip), or to Inca Bridge (40 min. walk round trip) or to Huayna Picchu Mountain (1:30 hours walk round trip).
Then, in the afternoon, after enjoying Machu Picchu, you will catch the bus to take you down for about 25 minutes to Aguas Calientes Village.
Upon returning to Aguas Calientes you will have time to have lunch in a local restaurant or just for explore the town, if you want you can visit the handycraft market.
In the late afternoon, you will board the train back to take you to Ollantaytambo, here our driver will be waiting for you, who will bring in tourist transportation back to Cusco arriving at night.
Important notes:
- The times described in this itinerary are approximate. The exactly time depends of the type of train chosen, and schedules availabilities of the trains. The time to visit Machu Picchu really depend of the shape and physical conditions of each person; feel free walking on your own rhythm.
- Huayna Picchu Mountain can be climbed for $15 per person. This small original inca trail starts from Machu Picchu. This hike has incredible views and takes 1 and half hours round trip. (In this case, please require it when you book your trek because is subject to availability, just 400 spaces a day).
- Machu Picchu Mountain can be climbed instead of Huayna Picchu Mountain for $15 per person. This hike is a bit more challenging and takes 3 hours round trip. (Book it, when you reserve your trek).
- In Machu Picchu Archaeological Site, you always have the opportunity to climb to the Sun Gate for free and this is a much easier walk for about 1 hour and 30 minutes round trip, or maybe you can take another option for free a short and easy hike to Inca Bridge during 1 hour round trip.
- The Time back to Cusco can vary subject to train ticket availability.
